Hiermenus Go Forth*, IV:
Version 4 - The Page-Specific Parameters

HierMenus
CENTRAL
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This column is the fourth in a multi-column discussion of a new version of the hierarchical menu script.
Until our discussion is complete, the current version of the script will still be the latest maintenance release of Version 3: 3.10.3.
Read this column, and future columns, to learn how we built the menu script.
Use the most recent version of the script, always available in HierMenus Central.

In this column we continue our discussion of Version 4 with a look at the new Page-Specific Parameters.

Those of you familiar with previous versions of the HM will recognize the Page-Specific Parameters as the old in-page Global Parameters.

We have changed the wording to better reflect the function of the parameters and the configuration versatility of Version 4. The group of variables that we previously referred to as the Global Parameters set the look and behavior of the HM for all menu trees on a particular page. If the HM appeared site-wide, with the same look and behavior, then the Global Parameters had to be included on every page. In other words, the Global Parameters were not truly "global," they were "page-specific."

Version 4 allows authors to specify true "global" parameter variables once, in the HM script itself, and they will be applied site-wide. If certain pages require a different look and behavior of the HM, then authors may override some or all of the global settings using the Page-Specific Parameters.

Let's begin by listing the these new parameters.
